Passengers face delays as Virgin Australia’s check-in system fails

DESPERATE fans making the last minute trip to Sydney for the NRL Grand Final between the North Queensland Cowboys and Melbourne Storm are facing a touch and go situation after flights were delayed.
A Virgin flight from Townsville, originally due to a touchdown in Sydney before 4 pm will now not land until 4:30 local time, leaving fans with only a few hours to find their accommodation and make the long trip to Homebush.
All flights leaving Melbourne to Sydney are still on time.
Virgin Australia said the problem comes from an Optus technical issue which saw their check-in system go down.
A Virgin spokeswoman said the staff was forced to manually check in all passengers into affected flights.

“We are currently experiencing a disruption to our check-in systems due to an Optus technical issue,” Virgin Australia said in a statement posted on its website.
“We are manually checking passengers in and therefore there will be delays to flights today.”
In the statement, Virgin Australia urged passengers who are flying today to “allow extra time for check-in at the airport”.
